This policy explains what data arturmarkus.com (“AI Unfiltered”) processes when you read the site, subscribe to notifications, install it as an app, book a call or contact me, and what rights you have. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP, revised version in force since 1 September 2023) and, for visitors in the EU/EEA, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Controller
Artur Markus, Basel, Switzerland. Email: contact@arturmarkus.com. Postal address and further details are in the Imprint.
2. Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Hostinger. When you open a page, the web server records the request in a log: IP address, date and time, requested URL, referrer, browser and operating system. These logs are needed to run the site and to detect abuse. They are kept for a short period by the hosting provider and then deleted. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 31 FADP).
3. Cookies and local storage
The site itself sets only functional cookies and browser storage: a comment cookie if you opt in to remember your name and email, login cookies for registered users, and small local-storage flags that remember whether you dismissed a notice (for example the “Work with me” box or the notification prompt). These do not track you across sites and need no consent. Third-party services listed below may set their own cookies.
4. Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
I use Google Analytics 4, integrated through Google Site Kit, to see which articles are read and where visitors come from. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses and uses cookies (for example _ga) to recognise returning browsers. Data is processed by Google Ireland Ltd. and may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. You can block analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking third-party scripts in your browser. More: Google privacy policy.
5. Advertising (Google AdSense)
The site is registered with Google AdSense and may display ads. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings and at aboutads.info. Where consent is legally required (EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland), personalised ads are only shown after you agree.
6. Push notifications
You can subscribe to one notification per new article through the bell icon. Notifications are strictly opt-in. When you subscribe, your browser creates a push subscription (an endpoint URL at your browser vendor’s push service plus two encryption keys). That subscription, the subscribing browser family and the time of subscription are stored on my own notification server hosted on Railway. No name, email address or reading history is collected, and the subscription cannot identify you. Each send is logged as a count only. You can unsubscribe at any time through the bell icon or your browser’s notification settings; subscriptions that the push service reports as expired or invalid are deleted automatically.
7. App installation (PWA) and offline reading
If you install AI Unfiltered as an app, a service worker in your browser caches pages you have visited so they can be read offline. This cache stays on your device and is never sent to me. Uninstalling the app or clearing site data removes it.
8. Booking a call (Cal.com)
The contact page embeds a booking calendar from Cal.com. Loading the page transmits your IP address to Cal.com; the details you enter to book a call (name, email, notes) are processed by Cal.com and shared with me to hold the meeting. See the Cal.com privacy policy.
9. Email and comments
If you email me, I keep the message and your address as long as needed to handle the request and any follow-up. If you comment on an article, the comment, your name, email, IP address and browser string are stored for spam detection and moderation. A hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to display a profile picture (Gravatar privacy policy).
10. Fonts, embeds and external links
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which transmits your IP address to Google when a page loads. Articles may embed content from other sites (videos, posts, code); those sites can set cookies and collect data as if you visited them directly. Links to LinkedIn, GitHub, X and other services take you to those providers’ own privacy terms.
11. Search engines and automated systems
New and updated URLs are announced to search engines (IndexNow, sitemaps). This involves page URLs only, never visitor data. The articles themselves are produced by an automated pipeline, described on the About page; that pipeline does not process visitor data.
12. Data transfers abroad
Some providers named above (Google, Railway, Cal.com) process data in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Frameworks where the provider is certified, and otherwise on standard contractual clauses.
13. Your rights
You can ask for access to the personal data I hold about you, for correction or deletion, for restriction of processing, and for a copy in a portable format. You can object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw consent (for example by unsubscribing from notifications) at any time with effect for the future. Requests go to contact@arturmarkus.com. You may also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU/EEA, to your local supervisory authority.
14. Security and retention
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS with HSTS). Data is kept only as long as the purpose above requires: server logs briefly, push subscriptions until you unsubscribe or they expire, emails and comments for the duration of the exchange and any legal retention period.
15. Changes
This policy is updated when the site’s services change. The date at the top shows the current version.
